turtle tagging at Mundabullangana

Although there are many turtle tagging/monitoring projects along the West Australian coast, the Chevron/Pendoley project is by far the most sought after. I think it must be because it’s fully paid for, well publicised and really well structured. Anyway, I was really lucky to get involved and had an absolute blast!
The project has been running for over a decade at Barrow Island and Mundabullangana (the control site, where I was placed), and the results contribute toward understanding Flatback Turtle (Natator depressus) populations in the West Australian Pilbara region. Many super interesting papers have been published about the Flatbacks by Pendoley Environmental scientists so you should TURTLEY check them out J
I made this video to share my experiences whilst living the ‘tagging life’.
I also made one about Flatback nesting procedures (see my next post)
if I’ve sparked your interest, check it out! AND if you wanna get involved, applications are only open for a short time in August (so set a reminder in your calendar), and follow the links to apply at http://www.penv.com.au/volunteer.html
